Participating Organisations for Student Community Service in Cambodia

Below is a list of some of the participating organisations for volunteering activities and student community service in Cambodia.  Tweet World Travel also works directly with many schools and kindergartens in remote poverty stricken regions of the country for various community and building projects.

CHAMBOK COMMUNITY

Address:  Kampong Spue province, Chambok commune, Phnom Srouch district

Chambok is a community of 9 rural villages where visitors can experience village-life, and explore the area’s beautiful natural surroundings. Located 2 hours from Phnom Penh towards Sihanoukville on the border of the Kirirom National Park in southwest Cambodia this community-based ecotourism project was established in 2002 to provide an additional income for the local people and help protect the surrounding forest.

This organisation provides support for children from the most impoverish families to be re-integrated into the education focusing on hygiene, nutrition, medical and psychological care and protection. And giving support to their families.

 LITTLE ANGEL ORPHANAGE 

The Little Angels Orphanage has 70 children between the ages 4 -18 years. Most of the children attend school. However, they have the very bare basics and most kids sleep on the floor and struggle to afford food as they rely on donation and the sale of the children’s art in to tourists in order to survive.

GRACE HOUSE

Address:  Kor Kranh village, Kor Kranh village, Siem Reap, Cambodia

Grace House Community Centre is situated outside Siem Reap on the way to Tonle Sap Lake. The centre provides free English, General Education, Computer and Vocational Training to 200 children and young people aged 3 – 24 years and their families. 

ABCS AND RICE, SIEM REAP

Address:  ABCs and Rice offers free education and free food programs in an English and Khmer school for the underprivileged children of Poom Sala Consigne, Veal Village and Kroligne Village, 3km from the town centre of Siem Reap. There are currently 180 students aged from 4 to 16.

THE TRAILBLAZER FOUNDATION

Address:  Chong Kaosu Village, Slakram Commune, Siem Reap, Cambodia       

Collaborate with other foundations to develop integrated and sustainable projects, providing rural Cambodian families with clean water, healthy families, sufficient food, easy-to-access education, and sustainable incomes

THE SAMAKY FOUNDATION LTD.

A not for profit organisation aimed at improving living conditions for the Samaky Community. Support is delivered through a number of projects and community programs that aim to build the capacity of individuals and the community as a whole. The foundation has a key focus on education and training for both children and adults.

SANSOM MLUP PREY (SMP)

Address: 99, Kor Kranh, Siem Reap, Siem Reap, Cambodia

                   E74-E76, Chamkar Dong Dongkoar, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Established in 2009 to develop, promote and market wildlife-friendly products grown or crafted in communities located in all categories of land protected for their biodiversity value in Cambodia.  This work, undertaken in partnership with Wildlife Conservation Society, is effectively linking wildlife conservation to improving the livelihoods of villagers limited by the constraints of living in a remote area and with little opportunity to expand operations due to limited market access.

 

Khmer for Khmer Organization (KKO)

Address: Wat Bo Road / Street 20, Siem Reap 17259, Cambodia

Offers free education for children in need and free vocational training for young adults. They are able to provide this training mostly due to donations, providing free English classes to over 270 students and vocational training as tailors and motorbike mechanics.

OSMOSE

Osmose is an environment awareness building project linking short term priorities (bird colony protection, poverty reduction), long term appropriation (environment education) and revenue incentives (alternative revenue source building), and Osmose has progressively built an integrated approach linking: To improve the livelihood of floating villages’ inhabitants, To reduce poverty, To protect the environment, To protect the bird sanctuary, (classified as the Tonle Sap Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO since 1997).

 

HUSK CAMBODIA

HUSK works directly with communities to help improve the lives of Cambodian families. Our goals focus around the basics of providing access to safe water, livelihood opportunities, health, education and environment.

HELPING HANDS CAMBODIA

Address: 7, Salakonsang Village, Svaydongkhom Commune Siem Reap City, Siem Reap,

Helping hands runs a school for 300 children in rural Siem Reap, teaching health and hygiene and in the past have built bridges, fixed roads and provided training on agriculture and nutrition in partnership with the community.  Their aim is to give people a ‘hand up’ not a ‘hand out’, as this can cause them to become reliant on aid.

SUNRISE CAMBODIA

Sunrise Cambodia is a world-class charity working on the ground in Cambodia to give much-needed help to at-risk kids, struggling families and poor communities in some of the most poverty-stricken provinces of the country.  With over 100 children in Sunrise care, mainly due to severe disabilities and illness the organisation’s focus is on Reintegration, Community Care and education. Sunrise Cambodia runs a number of schools in the provinces, both for Sunrise kids who live with us full time and for other kids in some of the poorest villages in Cambodia.
